Cuba speaks of a “social explosion”

HAVANA (EFE).— The Cuban government yesterday told the United States Intelligence agencies to mount an operation to “cause a social outbreak,” taking advantage of the “complex economic situation” of the Caribbean island.

“They aspire to heat the Cuban streets during the summer, taking advantage of the complex situation that the country is experiencing in the economic order,” according to the official “Granma” (official organ of the Communist Party, the only legal one). The newspaper mentioned “Operation 11.7.24” which has among its goals “to cause a social outbreak around July 11, like a repeat of the 2021 riots, financed and promoted from the US.”

The “Granma” report, which cites the official website Razones de Cuba as a source, points out that “the attacks at this stage have as a prioritized objective the National Electrical System, due to its impact on people’s quality of life.”

“(…) They hope to generate sabotage and reinforce the destabilizing communications offensive,” in accordance with these means of the Cuban government.

They indicate that the United States “has tripled its budget, in which the actions of anti-Cuban senator Marco Rubio have been decisive.”

“Their tactics include the recruitment of criminals to commit acts of terrorism within the Island” and, according to Granma, “they plan to continue manipulating issues such as relations between Cuba and Russia, by presenting collaboration as a way for the Eurasian country to obtain soldiers from the Greater Antilles, which is uncertain.”

Another way they would use is to use the United States’ economic sanctions on Russia “as a method to aggravate the situation in the country, by slowing down shipments of fuel and food,” according to that source.

The prolonged and frequent blackouts in Cuba, as well as the lack of food, medicine and other basic products have been the triggers for several anti-government protests such as those on July 11, 2021, considered the largest in decades.

On March 17 and 18, hundreds of people demonstrated in Santiago de Cuba (east) and other cities in the country to protest the shortage of food and the prolonged daily blackouts on the island, plunged into a deep crisis for three years. .

Cuba has blamed the United States Government for “taking advantage” of the protests over lack of electricity and food for “destabilizing purposes.”
