Just before 6 p.m., the 110 center West reported that the plane had landed. The emergency services rushed to the scene with large resources.
The plane was on its way from Bergen to Kjevik Airport in Kristiansand. Data from FlightRadar shows that the plane got as far south as Haugesund, before it had to turn around. The aircraft in question is a 78-seat turboprop aircraft.
– The plane has now landed safely, but smoke is observed from an engine. Avinor takes over the coordination locally, wrote the Southern Norway Rescue Center on X.
No one was injured, but the passengers on board are being followed up by police and health personnel.
Unknown cause
Smoke was first reported in the cockpit, but communications manager Catharina Solli in Widerøe spoke up Bergens Tidende that the smoke was in the cabin where the passengers sat.
It is unclear what caused the smoke. The aircraft will now be examined by aircraft technicians following it has been towed away to the technical base at Flesland.
Widerøe states that there were 54 passengers and four crew members on board.
– Normal procedure is that the captain of the plane has a debrief with the passengers followingwards and explains what has happened. The passengers are then rebooked for later departures, says press officer Catharina Solli TV 2.
Norwegian Accident Investigation Board is routinely notified and will investigate the case.
Smoke mask
To The Bergen newspaper says operations manager Stein Rune Halleraker in the police that the plane reported both engine problems and smoke in the emergency message they sent.
– Smoke was detected in one of two engines when they were east of Karmøy, rescue manager Andreas Ingsøy at the main rescue center tells TV 2.
The daily newspaper and VG have been sent photos and videos that must have been taken inside the aircraft in question. The image shows a lot of smoke, people covering their mouths, and a person with a smoke mask inside the cabin.
At 19.10 the police wrote on X/Twitter that most of the resources from the emergency services had ended at the scene.
– We remain with some patrols and carry out various investigative steps.
