Korean celebrities who converted to Islam and consistently preach through social media (Instagram)

South KOREA is a country with a Muslim minority. However, in this ginseng country, Islam began to develop from year to year with increasing numbers of people converting to Islam.

This development is not only caused by the preaching of Islamic preachers, but also due to the entry of prominent figures such as Korean celebrities into Islam.

Several celebrities who are content creators on social media have also contributed to the development of Islam in South Korea. They often upload activities including worship activities to social media.

Daud Kim, a South Korean YouTuber said on his YouTube channel, “This is not meant to be riya but this is one method of preaching that we can do.”

Below is a list of Korean Muslim celebrities who actively preach through their social media content.

1. David Kim

Daud Kim converted to Islam in 2019. He admitted that he was interested in studying Islam following experiencing Islamic culture. Before converting to Islam, his real name was Jay Kim and he was active as a musician.

Daud Kim studied Islam in various countries, including Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Malaysia. Even though he admits he doesn’t know much, he often uploads his activities on social media.

Ayana is an influencer from South Korea who is also popular in Indonesia as a local cosmetics brand ambassador.

Ayana has been practicing shahada since 2012. Her spiritual journey is described in the book entitled Ayana: Journey to Islam. Apart from books, Ayana is also active on social media. He did not expect that some of his followers would claim to have been inspired by Ayana to convert to Islam.

3. Aydin Moon

Aydin Moon is Ayana Moon’s younger brother. He officially converted to Islam at the Central Seoul Mosque.

Apparently he was inspired by his older sister, Ayana. Aydin admitted that when he watched his older brother perform religious rituals such as reciting the Koran, it gave him peace of mind and heart.

Aydin had learned to read iqro with his older brother before converting to Islam. Aydin often uploads these activities to social media.

Ayana and Aydin actually received rejection from their families. However, this rejection did not prevent him from continuing to do good to his parents.

4. Manny (varsity)

Manny from the group Varsity became the first Korean artist from the KPop world to convert to Islam. This was confirmed directly by Varsity itself at the Music Bank event while promoting the album You Are Man Only One. As a Muslim, he admits that he no longer touches alcohol or pork.

5. Hwang Woo Joong

The owner of the Ujung Oppa YouTube channel also has thousands of followers. He also often includes preaching on his YouTube channel.

When Hwang Woo-joong visited Indonesia, he was moved for the first time by the sound of the call to prayer.

In fact, he has been interested in Islam since he was 14 years old. Unfortunately, information regarding Islam in South Korea at that time was very limited.

6. Song Bora

The next Korean star is Song Bora. He converted to Islam in 2007. After deciding to convert to Islam, he admitted that he found it difficult to carry out his worship properly. However, in the end he realized that prayers did not have to be done in the mosque, as long as the place was clean and holy.

Until now, Son Bora still likes uploading content related to Islam.

7. Muna Hyunmin Bae

Muna Hyunmin Bae is a painter. In 2008, he chose to embrace Islam while at that time he was completing his studies in the United Arab Emirates majoring in Scenography.

The Islamic environment “infected” him until he decided to convert to Islam. Amazingly, apart from preaching on social media, Muna also draws illustrations of hadith stories to inspire Korean Muslim children. He also often holds Islamic-themed painting exhibitions.

8. Morning Kang

Safiya Kang received guidance while working at the Korea Muslim Federation (KMF). Safiya actually doesn’t know what Islam is. However, because of the demands of his work, he indirectly became aware and increasingly interested in converting to Islam. Finally, with the help of the imam at the Seoul Mosque, he decided to convert to Islam in 2015.

Safiya is grateful that her decision did not meet with opposition from her family and friends. He said that his decision as a Muslim was greatly appreciated by the people around him and that made him very grateful.

However, even though at first it felt awkward because she might no longer drink alcohol or eat pork with her friends, Safiya Kang still got together and preferred to drink cola and eat other non-pork snacks.

Even though she is not very active on social media, several posts from Safiya Kang show her Islam.
