The spring weather yoyo continues: a cold front will sweep through Quebec on Sunday and Monday, followed by a rapid rise in temperatures starting on Tuesday.

A special weather bulletin, issued by Environment Canada on Sunday, predicts a drastic drop in mercury, snow in places and violent winds.

“We are expecting the passage of a cold front over Quebec, starting in the west, in Abitibi, this morning and heading east to reach the Saguenay at the end of the followingnoon, then the river late in the evening,” explains Environment Canada meteorologist Georgina Barradas.

The south of the province should be spared snow, but might receive rain showers. The Montreal region should be completely spared, according to forecasts from the federal meteorological agency.

In the Quebec region, a meteorological cocktail is expected, with a mix of rain and snow throughout the day and night until Monday morning.

As the cold front passes, “snow showers might reduce visibility to almost zero, with temperatures dropping quickly. Surfaces might become icy and dangerous,” warns Environment Canada.

Here are the sectors affected by the special weather forecast: – Abitibi – Chibougamau – Haute-Gatineau – Lièvre – Papineau – La Tuque – Lac-Saint-Jean – Mauricie – Mont-Laurier – Parc du Mont-Tremblant – Saint-Michel-des- Saints – Parent – Gouin reservoir – Pontiac – Laurentides wildlife reserve – La Vérendrye wildlife reserve – Saguenay – Témiscamingue

After the passage of the cold front, Monday morning will be particularly cold for this time of year, according to Ms. Barradas. “The weather will generally be fine, but cool, bring a little wool,” explains the meteorologist.

Conditions on Tuesday will be “drastically different,” with temperatures reaching up to 19°C in Montreal.
