Matrox Video at NAB 2024: Innovations in Remote Production, ST 2110, IPMX

Matrox Video will be present at NAB 2024. The latest innovations in remote production, live production, ST 2110 and IPMX were presented. Let’s present the highlights of the company’s stand.

Simplify content delivery at any scale

The “IP Video Conversion, Monitoring and Routing” area presents a group of products to easily and cost-effectively configure the ST 2110 environment. Here we mainly introduced “ConvertIP” and “ConductIP”.

“ConvertIP DSH” from the Matrox ConvertIP series

ConvertIP is an encoder/decoder series that converts baseband to ST 2110 or ST 2110 to baseband. It is expected to enable IP transmission in any environment, thereby improving cost effectiveness and achieving highly scalable networks.

The range of video signal interfaces includes an SDI model for broadcast companies and an HDMI model for Pro AV. There is also a model equipped with an SFP module for IP transmission interface, and various product lines are available, including prices.

Besides ST 2110, the supported transmission method also supports a standard called IPMX. IPMX is characterized by the ability to transmit videos even without a PTP environment. If you want to support PTP, you will need expensive switches and grandmasters. Another special feature is that it does not require such expensive equipment. An optional JPEG-XS license is also available, allowing video to be compressed and transmitted.

The stand also demonstrated how ConvertIP can be daisy-chained and operated securely.

ConductIP is an affordable NMOS control system solution. It has a simple user interface and offers intuitive NMOS control.

Improve your remote workflow

The “REMI & Contribution Encoding with Distribution” corner presents “Monarch EDGE”, a specialized encoder and decoder for remote production.

Regarding the product group, “Matrox Monarch EDGE E4” is an encoder, “Matrox Monarch EDGE D4” is a decoder, and “Monarch EDGE S1” supports simultaneous bidirectional encoding and decoding. The encoder is just an encoder, the decoder is just a decoder, and S1 can process encoding and decoding at the same time.

An example of its use is remote production that uses return feeds, where video edited in a remote studio can be recorded in near real time from the broadcast site. The encoder and decoder support counting and intercom. Another feature is that there is no need to prepare a separate intercom or clocking.

Matrox sister company GlobalM will showcase on-premises and hybrid video networking solutions. It has bases all over the world and is capable of providing stable video transmission.

Streamline access to remote desktops

In the “Remote Control and Operations” corner, we introduced the “Extio 3” IP KVM series, which can realize KVM with almost zero delay. It works by connecting a TX transmitter to the computer you want to control and receiving it via RX.

Matrox’s unique “Aggregator Mode” is a feature that allows you to display four windows on a single monitor and control four computers. I was able to switch between PCs so seamlessly that I had the illusion of being able to transfer files to another PC.

Extio 3 is also unique in that it does not require a switching matrix. Another highlight is that it can be easily expanded later.

DSX LE6 D100 network interface display

The development corner presents Matrox developer products. Matrox originally used SDI I/O as its primary system, but recently it has expanded to support ST 2110 I/O.

In the same corner, “DSX LE6” compatible with ST 2110 will be exhibited. Until now, it was compatible with ST 2110 compatible 25Gbps compatible I/O, but DSX LE6 has made a dual 100Gbps compatible interface card.

Virtualize live production

The “Live Cloud Production” corner features “ORIGIN,” a multimedia framework that enables video production to be cloud-based. Basically, like developer products, this is a product developed using an API to create custom products for each station.

The timing problem is why cloud computing is making headway in finance, surveillance, and education, but not in broadcasting. Achieving full picture and sound synchronization in the cloud not only requires ingenuity, but also requires processing with as low latency as possible.

ORIGIN solves this problem and helps create a cloud solution for video production tailored to each station’s workflow.
