In cooperation with the police and the company “Keliau bereža” it is planned to establish a mobile post near Šalčininkai, and temporary traffic control signs will also be installed, the Ministry of Transport announced on Friday.
“We can see that the presence of goods vehicles on the side of the A15 road poses a significant risk to traffic safety and public order. Therefore, a solution was found to move the parking of the trucks to a less busy road”, said the chancellor of the ministry, Ramūnas Dilba, in a statement.
Tow trucks will be diverted from the A15 road connecting the border with Vilnius to the roadside of another, less busy road.
It is announced that traffic will be constantly regulated by the Directorate of Border Control Points together with the police, and bio-toilets and garbage containers will also be installed.
The decision to divert the trucks was made at the meeting of the heads of the National Crisis Management Center of the Government Chancellery and the Šalčininkai District Municipality held this week.
On March 1, Lithuania closed the Lavoriškii and Raigard border crossings, and last summer Lithuania also closed two border crossings – Šumsko and Tverečias. At the moment, only the Medininkai and Šalčininkai points are operating on the border with Belarus. Queues of cars have been forming near them lately.
