Niamey is preparing to host the Niger-Tunisia economic forum which will bring together several Tunisian and Nigerien businessmen. This major event will be an opportunity to explore investment opportunities in promising sectors and to discuss ways to increase trade in exported products between the two countries. On the program, B2B meetings and site visits.

Mandated by the economic interest group GIE Tunisie Niger Développement, the export and investment consultancy AZ is organizing an economic mission to Niamey in Niger from May 4 to 9. This initiative, supported by major Tunisian players such as Cepex, Tunisair, the National Trade Union Chamber of Export Advisors, Tunisie Business and Tunipages, as well as by renowned Nigerien partners such as the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Niger, Bagri, Sonibank, the National Order of Architects of Niger, the Order of Physicians of Niger and the association of medical delegates, promises fruitful collaboration between the two countries. The event will take place under the patronage of the Minister of Trade and Industry of Niger, Seydou Asman with the desired joint patronage of his Tunisian counterpart. Participation in this forum is still open to all businessmen wishing to discover the possibilities of partnership with their Nigerien counterparts. In fact, the mission concerns thirty companies, twenty of which have confirmed their participation to date. With its program rich in meetings and exchanges, this economic mission will be an opportunity to explore investment opportunities in the two countries, in various sectors including agriculture, agro-industry, hydraulics, energy and mining, banking and insurance, the pharmaceutical industry, medical assistance and travel agencies, higher education and professional training, digital, architecture, town planning and public works, textiles and second-hand clothing. The Tunisian and Nigerien delegations will also have to discuss ways to remove obstacles to the establishment of several Tunisian investors in Niamey. According to the organizers, this unmissable meeting, which is part of efforts aimed at consolidating a win-win partnership between investors from the two countries, aims to stimulate exchanges of exported products but also of expertise. Among the expected objectives of the forum on which the organizers are counting, they cite: promoting a better reception for more students in Tunisian higher education schools and training centers; develop Niger-Tunisian professional training centers and offices in Niamey; ensure a better partnership in the health sector, support agricultural production in Niger and establish a core of at least four Tunisian industrialists in Niamey.

Why a forum in Niamey?

With trade still modest ($10.2 million), bilateral trade between the two countries presents enormous growth potential. Indeed, without sharing common borders, Niger maintains historical relations with Tunisia. With a population of more than 25 million inhabitants, almost half of whom are under 15 years old (49.1%), this agricultural country, whose economy is essentially based on agriculture and livestock, represents a promising market. It has significant natural resources such as uranium, gold, iron, coal and oil. Furthermore, and according to the United Nations development program, Niger is considered one of the most emerging countries.

To attract investors, it has put in place measures, including tax incentives, in several areas, such as agriculture and mining. The close economic ties between the two countries are also demonstrated by the presence of the Tunisian bank STB which still occupies a leading position in the shareholding of Sonibank, Niger’s leading bank. Tunisair is one of eight airlines serving Niamey with two frequencies per week and is studying the possibility of doubling this number. According to the organizers of the forum, all the sectors mentioned offer comfortable margins for progress in both directions, making this economic mission an unmissable event for entrepreneurs and investors wishing to seize the possibilities offered by this dynamic bilateral collaboration.
