As announced by the Central Election Commission (CEC), G. Kniukšta is already the 12th candidate who submitted application documents. The deadline for submitting these documents is Friday.

Three contenders have already collected signatures to run for the presidential elections: Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė nominated by the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats, former judge of the Constitutional Court Dainius Žalimas nominated by the Freedom Party and President Gitanas Nausėda seeking a second term.

I. Šimonytė has collected over 33 thousand, D. Žalimas and G. Nausėda – over 20 thousand. signatures.

The nearest required 20 thousand. from the rest of the candidates, the lawyer Ignas Vēgėlė, who is trying to stand up for himself, with 14.5 thousand signatures.

Doctor Eduardas Vaitkus has collected 11.8 thousand online. signatures, the leader of the “Nemunos ausra” party, MP Remigijus Žemaitaitis – 11.4 thousand. signatures.

Former Minister of Health, Member of Parliament Aurelijus Veryga, nominated by the Union of Lithuanian Peasants and Greens, has collected 7.3 thousand. signatures, former army commander Valdas Tutkus – 6.6 thousand. signatures.

Former Deputy Minister of National Defense Giedrimas Jeglinskas nominated by the Democratic Union “Vardan Lietuvos” has 6.3 thousand. signatures, Labor Party leader Andrius Mazuronis – 2.6 thousand. signatures, Arūnas Rimkus – over 760 signatures.

The presidential election will be held on May 12.
