Brussels – European Union Foreign Policy Commissioner Josep Borrell condemned the violence of extremist Israeli settlers in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and stressed the need to hold the perpetrators accountable.
Borrell said in a post on the “X” platform yesterday, Friday, that the European Union decided to impose sanctions on extremist settlers in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem due to serious human rights violations once morest the Palestinians.
He added: “We strongly condemn the violence of extremist settlers and the perpetrators must be held accountable.”
On Friday, the European Union imposed sanctions on 4 Israeli settlers and two Israeli extremist groups due to violent practices once morest Palestinians in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
The Council of the European Union said: “Individuals and entities subject to these sanctions are responsible for serious human rights violations once morest Palestinians.”
The Council explained in a statement that “these violations include torture and other forms of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, as well as violations of the right to property and the right to private and family life of Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.”
He pointed out that “the sanctions include freezing assets and banning visas.”
The European Union blacklisted two organizations: “Lehava” and “Hilltop Youth.” As for the four individuals hit by the sanctions, they are Meir Ettinger and Elisha Yereid, who lead the “Hilltop Youth” group, and settlers Neria Ben Bazi and Yinon Levy. .
On Friday, the US Treasury Department announced sanctions on two entities that it said helped collect tens of thousands of dollars for two extremist colonists in the West Bank.
The United Nations expressed its concern regarding the escalation of violence in the West Bank, and called on the Israeli security forces to “immediately stop their active participation and support for settler attacks” on Palestinians there.
