In the video narration, A. Bumblauskas together with TV presenter Renata Šakalyte-Jakovleva reads the story of a woman who grew up in a violent environment. In it, the woman tells regarding one of her first childhood memories – how she and her mother were hiding in the closet from her father who was chopping the walls and doors with an ax.
In the story sent, the woman remembers repeatedly tearing her father away from her unconscious mother, whom he continued to tear away, running barefoot in the winter to seek help.
After the sensitive narration, the professor cannot contain his horror and compares the perpetrators to Bucha’s killers.
“The abusers are always where Buča is. Near Kyiv. Maybe we know? Now the whole world knows. Those who oppose the Istanbul Convention, I think, what, are you on that side? On the side of Bucha’s killers. He probably doesn’t dare to confess like that,” says A. Bumblauskas.
Lithuania Istanbul Conventionwhich is intended to combat violence once morest women and girls, was signed back in 2013, but the Seimas has not yet ratified it.
“It is not enough to declare that we are for human rights. Who are we for women’s rights, for children’s rights? So what? Plurpals! If it is not labeled as violence, and what are the consequences,” says the professor.
Every year, regarding 55,000 calls are received in Lithuania regarding possible domestic violence, or one call every ten minutes throughout the year. Eight out of ten victims are women.
