After the first punch was thrown, several other MPs began throwing punches – with Elisashvili later cheered outside the parliament building for his actions.
Five opposition MPs have now been expelled from a Justice Committee hearing on the bill following the row: Giorgi Vasantze, Paata Mandzkaladze, Ana Natchvlisvili, Levan Khabeishvili and Hatia Dekanoitze.
The controversial bill was introduced by the Georgian Dream party and would require organizations receiving foreign funding to register as “foreign agents” or face fines.
However, the bill provoked strong reactions and put pressure on Georgian citizens who aim to join the EU.
