The airport of the same name in Vladikavkaz (North Ossetia) was closed for repairs following a lightning strike on the evening of April 19. A hole appeared on the track, Rosaviatsiya press secretary Artem Korenyako said.

“Vladikavkaz Airport (Beslan, ICAO code – URMO) in the Republic of North Ossetia was closed on the evening of Friday, April 19 for short-term repairs to the surface of the artificial runway – a hole was formed following love at first sight,” Korenyako wrote on her telegram channel. According to him, following the repair, airport service specialists will have to assess the quality of the coating and resume flights. Due to the closure of the airport, two flights from Sochi and Moscow will stop at the alternative Mineralnye Vody airfield.

Pavel Gerasimov, a former specialist at the International Civil Aviation Organization, said that the most common problem with planes is lightning hitting sensors, reports “National Press Service” According to him, due to the impact, a whole group of fuses might blow and the plane would no longer be able to function until it is repaired.
