See the pictures: Queen Mary at a party in Aalborg

The red carpet was rolled out, and a royal glow was thrown over Musikkens Hus in Aalborg on Friday followingnoon.

Aalborg University was able to celebrate its 50th anniversary, and on that occasion Queen Mary was invited as a guest.

Friday was also the first time she was in North Jutland since she became queen back in January.

Queen Mary was received by Aalborg University’s rector, chairman of the board and patron, among others.

But even though the title is different, Mary was just as attentive to everyone around her as she always was. When she had been handed her bouquet of flowers on arrival, she quickly spotted a woman outside in front of Musikkens Hus, who had brought a bouquet of flowers for her herself.

The queen immediately jumped away from the unrolled red carpet and over to the woman, who both handed the flowers to the queen and received a loving handshake from her, before the queen went inside to a tense concert hall in Musikkens Hus.

Aalborg University celebrated its anniversary by holding a big show, with both sand art, opera and flamingo dancing, and it was all attended by Queen Mary, who was flanked by both the Minister of Employment Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen (S) and the Minister of Education and Research Christina Egelund ( M) inside the hall. Both ministers are from North Jutland, and therefore specially invited to the celebration.

Along the way, several researchers were praised and several were also awarded grants for their work.

Even though it was a happy day for Aalborg University, the jubilee joy took a small hit when it was revealed earlier today that the university will cut 443 study places next year, as part of the new university reform.
