World’s oldest man reveals secret to a long life

LONDON (AP) — The world’s oldest man says the secret to a long life is luck, moderation and eating fish and chips.

John Alfred Tinniswoodwho is 111 years old, has been confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest man in the world. This, following the death a few days ago of the Venezuelan Juan Vicente Pérez, who was 114. Gisaburo Sonobe of Japan, who was the second oldest, died on March 21 at 112 years of age.

Tinniswood received a certificate from the Guinness Book of World Records at the care home where he lives in Southport, northwest England.

Born in Liverpool on August 26, 1912, a few months following the sinking of the Titanic, Tinniswood lived through two world wars and served in the British Army in World War II.

The retired accountant and great-grandfather He said that the key to a long life is moderation. He never smokes, rarely drinks, and doesn’t stick to any particular diet other than eating fish and chips for dinner once a week.

“If you drink too much or eat too much or walk too much — if you do anything too much — eventually you’re going to suffer,” Tinniswood told the Book of World Records.

But at the end of the day, he asserted, “it’s pure luck. “You’re going to live a long time or you’re going to live a little, and there’s not much you can do regarding it.”

The world’s oldest woman – and the oldest person – is Maria Branyas Morerafrom Spain, who is 117 years old.
