It was now well known that anti-Semitism (passed off to the most naive as anti-Zionism) was a weed that had taken root vigorously in the progressive universe. But you know, surprises are around the corner. And so, looking through her Facebook profile, we discovered the ideas and positions on the war in Gaza of the candidate for the next European elections chosen, among the drum rolls, by the wonderful couple, Nicola Fratoianni and Angelo Bonelli. Souzan Fatayer, a teacher of Palestinian origin, who will run in the Southern constituency with the Green and Left Alliance, is an «expert reader of the Arabic language at the Oriental University of Naples». His ideas are nothing short of radical. A profile full of gruesome images, of murdered children and mothers on the run. Of pain and suffering. It is always and only Israel’s fault. Of his politics, of his stubborn desire to resist and for that incomprehensible (at least for Carlo Marx’s grandchildren) desire to exist. A completely obvious attempt, that of using the little ones, to denounce responsibilities which, according to the Avs candidate, are only on one side. But the best is yet to come.
Scrolling the profile brings you to March 30th. And here the “Fatayer-thought” offers the best of itself. The teacher posts a photo of a Palestinian family. And she wonders. «Mother, father and children killed. Is this called genocide or is it a mistake?” You don’t need to be a great history expert to understand how that word, almost automatically (or, at least, to people with common sense) brings to mind one of the most terrible moments in the history of humanity. That Holocaust is too often used inappropriately by the left when it comes to attacking conservatives. And, just as casually, forgotten, swept under the carpet (like dust) when it comes to defending Hamas. Evidently considered a political entity and not a terrorist organization. But it’s not enough.
The teacher, an expert in the Arabic language, makes a questionable comparison the same day. «Nazi Zionists». A coherent parallel, from her point of view. Propaganda fiercely opposed to Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, which reached very high heights in those days at the end of March. A video is posted, in which an explicit title stands out. “Israel is a murderous gang.” On March 28, the Avs spearhead worries regarding the free press. «Zionist soldiers shoot at journalists in northern Jerusalem, near the Qalandia refugee camp». Finally, on March 25, Souzan Fatayer returns to the Israeli military. “Zionist soldiers rape Palestinian girls in front of their husbands, their brothers, their fathers and if they close their eyes they are killed.”
