Salzburg qualified for the Club World Cup

Salzburg owes their participation in the 2025 Club World Cup to their own European Cup successes over the past four years. This results in the UEFA club coefficient. For participation in the FIFA Club World Cup, each club’s coefficients from the 2020/21 season to the 2023/24 season are added together. Salzburg have 40 points (7/17/9/9) – with the 17 points from the 2021/22 season in particular being worth their weight in gold. This has nothing to do with the national championship title itself.

A total of 32 clubs take part in the Club World Cup. Twelve of them from Europe. With 40 points from the last four years, Salzburg are “only” in 18th place. The fact that there is still enough for one of the 12 European tickets depends on several factors:

A maximum of two teams from one country are allowed to take part in the Club World Cup. This means that six teams will be eliminated: FC Liverpool, (England) RB Leipzig (Germany), FC Barcelona, FC Sevilla (both Spain), SSC Napoli and AC Milan (both Italy).

Four of the twelve tickets automatically go to the four Champions League winners from 2021 to 2024. In recent years, FC Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester City have been teams that have already qualified for the Club World Cup anyway. And since Wednesday it has also been clear that the winner of the current Champions League season (Bayern, Dortmund, Real Madrid or Paris Saint Germain) is one of the four teams that already have a ticket. If Arsenal FC had won the Champios League, the English would have received a third English ticket in addition to Manchester City and Chelsea FC.

This is what the four-year ranking currently looks like:

  1. FC Liverpool* (76 points, not qualified)
  2. RB Leipzig* (62 points, not qualified)
  3. FC Barcelona* (61 points, not qualified)
  4. SSC Napoli* (42 points, not qualified)
  5. FC Sevilla* (42 points, not qualified)
  6. AC Milan* (41 points, not qualified)
