WASHINGTON (EFE).- The United States Department of State condemned this Saturday the violation of the Vienna Convention that led to the assault by Ecuador of the Mexican Embassy in that country and urged Washington’s two allies to “resolve their differences in accordance with international norms.”
State Department spokesman Matthew Miller indicated that “the United States condemns any violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and takes seriously the obligations of countries under international law to respect the inviolability of diplomatic missions.” .

On Friday night, members of the Ecuadorian Police entered the Mexican embassy in Quito to apprehend Jorge Glas, who had received political asylum from the Mexican Government and had been in the Mexican legation since last December.

The group of 18 people will travel on Sunday, April 7 on a commercial flight from Ecuador to Mexico City. The Mexican Embassy in that country will remain closed indefinitely, as will consular services.
