Thus in the kitchen technology marries design

The union has existed for some time, even if visiting the stands of the Salone del Mobile in Milan it is clear that in the kitchen sector the technological and design directions are increasingly intertwined, interdependent and “necessary”.

The Eurocucina Show, now in its 24th edition, takes place simultaneously with the FTK, Technology for the Kitchen, event, bringing together more than 100 entrepreneurs in a space of 24 thousand square metres.

The new possibilities offered by technology are evident in company presentations and one of the lines of development is clearly that of the “connection” of objects. Home appliances today can be connected to a network and this not only allows their activity to be directly programmed but also allows some maintenance activities to be carried out remotely. In some cases, remote diagnosis allows you to identify the problem and resolve it via software, thus avoiding having to send a technician directly to your home.

A rapidly developing trend is that of induction hobs, where the improvements concern the design but also the functionality, such as partial switching on of the areas on which a pan is placed, in order to avoid unnecessary waste of energy. Route, that of hobs, which for example Elica is strongly following, diversifying its business beyond extraction tools. The hoods, the group’s traditional business, 2600 employees, 80% of the revenues achieved thanks to exports, are in this case still present but integrated into the hob, therefore extracting downwards. Another hi-tech foray is to integrate induction hob, extractor hood and oven into a single object. «We have reorganized the business and broadly diversified our product lines, also working with great designers and architects – explains Elica CEO Giulio Cocci – and we are ready to take advantage of the new incoming demand. To launch this message, the Salone del Mobile is essential, we want to be visible and “loud” in our communication”.

Elica and hi-tech: induction, integrated hood and oven

Wandering around the stands you can see monster-sized refrigerators of over 1000 litres, programmable tools, ovens capable of recognizing the dish inserted, so as to program the most suitable cooking. A path, the technological one, which also continues to be followed by Smeg, the historic manufacturer of household appliances (just under one billion in revenues), which is launching new lines here at the Show, one of which was designed by Stefano Boeri.
