From the next academic year, the implementation of compulsory training in the field of national defense (VAM) will be included in the secondary education curriculum, according to amendments to the standard of general secondary education adopted by the government on Tuesday.
VAM will become one of the core courses in health, safety and physical activity training. It will take place for eight hours one day per month for two consecutive academic years. The course consists of 112 lessons.
Schools will be able to choose whether to implement VAM in addition to their existing teaching load or based on the number of lessons taught in other subjects. If student performance trends worsen, the school leader can change the number of hours in the course, increasing it as needed.
The implementation of VAM will follow the curriculum developed by the Jaunsardze Center and the procedure for assessing student performance, it will be implemented by junior instructors of Jaunsardze.
In 2018, the Seimas decided that from September 1, 2024, compulsory training in national defense will be introduced as a compulsory subject in all educational institutions providing general and secondary vocational education.
