On rumors regarding Indonesia’s relations with Israel, the Indonesian Foreign Minister has dismissed media reports saying that the country is not establishing diplomatic relations with Israel in return for membership in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

These views were expressed by the Indonesian Foreign Minister when the media circulated the news of secret talks between the two countries allegedly regarding the (OECD) membership during the last three months.

Lalu Muhammad Iqbal, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in a statement to the news agency, that I confirm that there is no plan to establish diplomatic relations with Israel yet, given Israel’s actions in Gaza.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that Indonesia stands firmly in defense of the rights of the Palestinian people.

Indonesia is seeking to join the OECD, which currently has 38 members that are developed countries. Admitting new countries to the organization requires unanimous approval by members, which includes Israel.
