England – A British survey of 2,000 adults revealed that preparing for the commute to work and taking the children to school makes the morning the most stressful time of the day.
When participants were asked regarding the time during the day when they felt most stressed, 51% of them admitted that they “often feel exhausted” from the moment they wake up and leave bed.
But most people felt stressed at 8:15 a.m., on average. They said that they sometimes lose 20 minutes and 28 seconds of time, due to unexpected incidents during that period, in an already busy time of the day.
Nearly half of the study’s participants, 47%, said they were busier now than at any time in their lives. 35% of them claimed that they “don’t know” how to find time to do things that would make them happy.
Participants reported that losing their house keys, oversleeping, knowing what to wear, and quickly getting their children ready for school were among their usual concerns in the morning.
But the researchers offered some hope in the form of tips to help reduce stress from a stressful morning routine, including ditching the tech gadgets and packing lunches the night before.
They also advised creating an easier and more consistent morning routine that all family members can adhere to, which also helps relieve stress.
The research team advised parents to wake up at least 30 minutes before their children wake up, and to allocate some free time to prepare themselves.
It also calls for delegating more tasks and responsibilities to children, focusing on useful tasks that are appropriate for their ages.
The findings add to recent studies that have warned that exposure to stress or burnout in middle age may increase the risk of dementia.
