One of the first concerns of the French is their health and they appreciate their pharmacist, the only health professional close and accessible without delay. However, in January 2024, thirty-six pharmacies permanently closed their doors in France. This insidious disintegration of the drug distribution network is only really seen in villages which have lost the only pharmacy serving their territory, as has just happened in the east of Châtillonnais, in Côte-d’Or. However, more than 4,000 pharmacies have disappeared in a dozen years from the hitherto exemplary pharmaceutical network, falling below the mark of 20,000 sites in mainland France.
The pharmacies of which we are a part have adapted to therapeutic developments as well as to advances in IT, moving from everything by hand to software capable of querying the wholesaler’s stock directly and searching for products available in this time of shortage. , to serialize each box to ensure traceability and authenticity at a time when drug trafficking is booming, to generalize third-party payment, thus facilitating access to care, even for the most deprived.
We have always moved forward. We responded during the Covid-19 epidemic, organizing ourselves to carry out tests, deliver masks and vaccinate. We have helped to disconnect our remuneration from the volume of medicines, in order to avoid overconsumption, and we discover that the government plans to promote sales on the Internet, which will have precisely the opposite effect. Our commitments on generics, on adapted deliveries, result in billions of euros in savings for Social Security, so that it can better remunerate our work and, in return, the threat of a breakdown of the monopoly returns, once once more, on the carpet.

Which shareholders will be interested in the delivery of Ilaris at 11,365.55 euros per box, which saves 98.65 euros gross for the pharmacy and 233.77 euros in VAT for the State? Or blood glucose lancets purchased for 12.04 euros excluding tax and resold for 13.21 euros, i.e. 68 cents of VAT and 49 cents for the pharmacy? Which pension funds will buy fragile rural pharmacies? The State already has plans to subsidize them rather than upgrade the network in its entirety. The French drug has controlled prices so low that laboratories are stopping production of molecules sold at a loss.
