He rubbed shoulders as equals with world off-road stars of the stature of Marc Coma and Ciryl Despres, at the time when high competition in the motorcycle discipline was exclusive almost exclusively to a couple of names in the world. country. In 2011, and still in his twenties, he marked the best historical debut of a Chilean in the Dakar Rally (15th place), a competition where he had the best performance of him two years later, with 12th place.

Daniel Gouet marked an era in two-wheeled sports in the Region, and also at the country level, with titles in the main tournaments at the Creole level, such as the Atacama Rally and the National Cross Country Rally.

An ascending career, but one that had a before and following, following the serious accident suffered in the Desafío Ruta 40 in 2014, which meant the fracture with displacement of his left humerus. Surgical intervention involved, from there his competitive journey began a sustained decline, which made him move away from the elite competitive scene a few years later.

That’s why the Chiguayan native was missed, until now. Because the helmet announced his return, and in a big way, with a presence in two of the top tournaments at the national level, where he intends to renew his laurels and, why not, lift a trophy. Time and the physical will tell.

In honor of “Pedrito”

Pedro Gouet is 5 years old, he is Daniel’s son, and according to the athlete, he is the great reason to get back on a motorcycle. “I was away for a long time, but when my son started to grow up, I said how might he not see me riding a motorcycle, it mightn’t be that his knowledge of my sporting career is based on photos or posters. Because of him I got motivated once more, I started running once more, walking well, I got excited and here I am,” he says happily.

Of course, Gouet recognizes that it has not been all smooth sailing. “Riding a motorcycle wasn’t difficult for me, but my age is noticeable, I’m already 37 years old and it’s not the same as before, you ride more carefully and slower because you don’t want to get injured, I ride with 20-year-old ‘goats’ who tell me ‘you’ and those who don’t care at all fall. Now those old injuries that didn’t weigh before hurt, like for example when I shattered my humerus. But I try to have a good time, I’m still super competitive, but in a different way,” explains the helmet that competes for Honda.

At the beginning of the year, he already competed in the first date of the National Motocross in Osorno, where he placed 19th. “He had just come out of a finger injury coupled with a bad cold,” says the athlete. Meanwhile, this weekend, he will debut in the Zonal Sur Enduro, whose initial date will be in Coelemu. “I am clear regarding my objectives for both events. In the national motocross ‘I jumped into the pool’ and returned to race in the Pro category, where I want to finish the year in the top 10. From the first date until today I have recovered, training well, so there is confidence. While in the Southern Zone, which is a very entertaining and very powerful competition for the Region, I want to be champion in Super Experts. It is a very special tournament for me because I have never been able to win it, so I am really looking forward to it. How can I not win the championship in my area,” says the GyP Motos rider.
