CHAIRMAN OF PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri is predicted to find it difficult to join forces with elected president Prabowo Subianto. This was due to the actions of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) during the 2024 General Election (Pemilu).
“The Jokowi factor influenced Megawati’s reluctance to join Prabowo’s coalition,” said Executive Director of Political and Public Policy Studies Jerry Massie when contacted, Tuesday (16/4).
This condition was further complicated by the participation of Jokowi’s son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as Prabowo’s vice presidential candidate (cawapres). This effort even involved the Constitutional Court (MK) through MK decision Number 90/PUU-XXI/2023 regarding the requirements for presidential and cawapres candidates.
“Gibran’s son (Jokowi) was a cadre himself (PDIP) but instead became Prabowo’s vice presidential candidate,” he said.
This estrangement, said Jerry, was increasingly visible from Jokowi’s absence from meeting Megawati during Eid al-Fitr. In fact, Jokowi did not attend PDIP’s birthday because he was visiting abroad.
“The next factor is the PDIP grass roots,” he explained.
Jerry predicts PDIP supporters will reject Megawati joining Prabowo. Because they are disappointed that Jokowi did not support Ganjar Pranowo, who is a party colleague.
“It’s a different story if Jokowi supports Ganjar as PDIP presidential candidate, the relationship between Jokowi and Megawati will definitely remain lasting,” he explained. (Z-3)
