The elected mayor of Himaras, Freddy Beleris, has officially announced that he will be a candidate with New Democracy in the European elections.
Freddy Beleris was unable to attend the ND event for the presentation of the ballot paper for the European elections and an empty chair was in the venue, in a highly symbolic move.
In the audio message sent by Freddy Beleris, he characteristically mentions that “today, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis offered me the opportunity to claim the vote of the Greek people in the European elections of June 2024. I thank him for this but above all I thank him for the undivided support he offered me all these months that I have been imprisoned.
The battle I am fighting is not personal. It is a battle for the rule of law and democracy, whose rules must be respected by all.
It is a battle for the values that the West and Europe stand for and which must be respected by those who want to join the great European family. It is a battle for the most suffering and wronged part of Hellenism, the Greek minority of Albania.
My brothers who following decades of oppression want and are entitled to live freely and peacefully, without fear, in a place that respects their rights, honor and property.
I call on every Greek man and woman to support the New Democracy ballot, to support the Prime Minister who is building a strong and proud Greece with determination and method, Kyriakos Mitsotakis”.
