Three years following Spotify announced a so-called ‘lossless’ format for its streaming service with HiFI, there are signs that it will finally happen. This is what emerges from the service code.
A Reddit user named Hypixely found references to a service called ‘Music Pro’ in the code of the Spotify app. This is what technology site The Verge reveals. This premium subscription might, among other things, broadcast the format without loss.
Most streaming services compress their files to transfer them. This means that the music takes up less bandwidth, but some quality may also be lost. For true music fans, lossless audio, meaning the service does not compress files, has therefore long been the best.

Spotify announced ‘lossless’ audio three years ago, under the name Spotify HiFi, under a more expensive ‘Supremium’ subscription. However, this type of subscription never saw the light of day. The new ‘Music Pro’ would rather be a complement to existing subscriptions. In addition to lossless audio, the service might also include advanced mixing tools and optimization for headphones.
