He did it. Ugo Humbert, 15th player in the world, won on Thursday April 11 once morest the Italian Lorenzo Sonego in the round of 16 of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters 2024. A victory in forceps in three sets (5-7, 6-3 , 6-1) once morest the one who beat him last year in the first round of this same tournament. But this time, the 57th player in the world was no match for the Frenchman, delighted with this success.

“Monstrous! I’m super proud to have overturned the match, in a not easy context, he said following this round of 16. I played it last year with four match points, it hurt me to lose. At first I felt he was stronger than me. I wasn’t hitting very well, but I felt like I was there. I was ready to fight. With this mindset, I quickly managed to find the solutions. I was like, “Okay man, you don’t care, you’re coming back on the court tomorrow no matter what.” Physically, I was fine. I feel a lot of progress. As I went along, I felt that there were more holes in front. I’m struggling badly.”

Ugo Humbert is in good form which can perhaps be explained by his very thorough physical preparation which he followed this year alongside Xavier Moreau who in the past took care of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga or Amélie Mauresmo.
