The front runner was Deutschlandsberg in Styria with 31.7 degrees. This value is a new April record for Styria and close to the highest temperature recorded in an April in Austria of 32.0 degrees in Waidhofen/Ybbs in Lower Austria on April 28, 2012, Geosphere reported in a release on Monday. There was also a new federal state record for April in Carinthia – with 30.9 degrees in Villach. The old record was 29.9 degrees from April 7, 2011 in Pörtschach.
Hot follows cool
But the higher temperatures are over once more for the time being: On Monday, a cold front hit Austria and brought rain showers, thunderstorms in places and significantly cooler air everywhere. On Tuesday it can rain heavily for a long time, especially in parts of Styria and Carinthia. The maximum temperatures on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are between around five and 14 degrees. “This means it is around 15 degrees cooler than at the weekend and a few degrees cooler than average in mid-April,” says Geosphere.
