England – There are steps we can take to try to keep our brains as healthy as possible, and a healthy, balanced diet is one of the most important recommended ways.
Food expert and founder of Seasoned Pioneers, Matt Webster, revealed 4 spices that can help boost brain power.
Ginger
Ginger is a powerful spice when it comes to brain health.
“Ginger contains hundreds of phytochemicals, all of which protect once morest oxidative stress that may accelerate the aging process and is thought to be one of the main drivers of Alzheimer’s disease,” Webster said.
Turmeric
“Its main compound, curcumin, has neuroprotective properties that help protect brain acuity,” Webster said.
He added: “It helps enhance memory function, reduce brain fog and improve cognition. “Curcumin has been found to increase levels of the growth hormone BDNF, which is reduced in people with Alzheimer’s disease.”
Cinnamon
Webster revealed that cinnamon is full of antioxidants that prevent protein buildup in the brain associated with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
He continued: “Not only does it stimulate the learning process, form new memories, and help nerve cells form and make new connections, but cinnamon also contains a high percentage of antioxidants that protect the brain from the negative effects of stress.”
Black pepper
Black pepper may be one of the most common spices in the world, and it’s also an excellent spice for brain health.
Webster added: “The main medicinal compound in black pepper is piperine, and it contains high amounts of antioxidants that prevent any damage to healthy brain cells. Black pepper also improves cognitive function and memory by stimulating chemical pathways to the brain.”
