It’s approaching Easter and that attracts some people to church and others to write nasty texts. The US trio belongs to the last faction and hits us with another powerfully distorted bite of blackened doom. The Detroiters started in 2017 and have a debut EP and a compilation Apotheosis now the third full album.
Both musically and lyrically Temple Of The Fuzz Witch no doubts arise from the start. The blatant satanic lyrics meet doomy, heavy and wonderfully drawn riffs. The vocals are sometimes evocatively clear, then once more presented as extreme growls.
No prisoners will be taken
The band manages to pull us into a kind of undertow right from the start. Is it initially with A Call To Prey another slower rotating black vortex, that’s how it works Wight like a tornado in slow motion. It incorporates deadly riffs, calculated heaviness and also black metallic nagging.
However, the album finds its first fascinatingly evil climax Nephilim. Here you are slammed into the wall as if by a racing steam engine. Doom, black metal and raging death metal elements come together and make the song something extraordinary that can no longer be topped.
Bigger, darker, heavier
Nephilim is the first extreme peak and can no longer be maximized. Therefore grab it Temple Of The Fuzz Witch on their roots and a handful of stoners Bow Down back. The structure of the song seems almost easy to digest because it follows along Sanguine another next ram. Like a mid-tempo hammer drill, the song rattles forward and intersperses dark black breaks.
Similar to the pattern at Bow Downthat was placed between indestructible chunks, follows with Cursed a wide-legged number. The song you HERE can hear, moves between mega-fuzzy guitars and intentionally doomy bulkiness. There is still no light visible because Raze is Doom with plaintive vocals. It’s simply unbelievable the intensity this band creates as a trio.
The renunciation of the light
A renunciation of conventional belief means Apostate. But this departure is not a musical return to light. On the contrary, the track is probably the most unwieldy block on the album. The riffs point into the dark, brutally and without mercy. Apostate is a five-minute riff orgy that deliberately impresses in a non-commercial way.
We have now reached the bottom of the vortex. It seems almost calm to us while everything is happening Ashes fueled around us. Once once more there is the whole program of fuzzy, doomy riffs and temporary energetic outbursts that would suit many a black metal band.
Many metal bands try to appear evil with their noise, but… Temple Of The Fuzz Witch they really are. Finally there is HERE with Ashes still hear the finale.
Conclusion
Temple Of The Fuzz Witch achieve an extreme, musical darkness from the first riff to the last nasty growl. Very rarely are such coherent and dedicated albums created. Nevertheless, it is at Apotheosis Be careful, because not every metalhead will be able to overcome this nasty problem. 9 / 10
