A total of 83 million euros for at least 51 projects are available, by decision of the Regional Mayor of Attica, Nikos Hardalia, to the Municipality of Piraeus, within the framework of Integrated Spatial Investment (OCI) financed by the Region of Attica through the “Attiki” Program 2021-2027.
“With targeted steps, we are implementing an integrated plan today, speeding up all procedures and investing 83 million euros for its future Piraeus, putting citizens at the center of our policy, just as we have committed. The at least 51 projects concern each neighborhood of Piraeus individually and I am sure that even the last euro will find a point of contact within the society itself, within the citizens themselves. It is very important that there are mature studies that accompany this assignment and I think that the results will soon be visible to the residents of all of Piraeus” said the Regional Governor of Attica, welcoming the Mayor of Piraeus Yiannis Moralis.
The 51 projects concern a series of actions, with the aim of upgrading the position of Piraeus in terms of sustainability and focusing on the local community.
Particularly:
• 63 million euros will be allocated to the strengthening of spatial economic, social, environmental and cultural development in the region.
Among other things, it is envisaged: energy efficiency measures in buildings, schools and public infrastructure, actions to adapt to climate change, strengthening the circular economy, physical regeneration of public spaces, energy upgrading of pavements, bioclimatic regenerations, “green” buses, a wide network of cycle paths, projects for the tourism promotion of the Municipality, promotion of cultural routes, creation of a cultural multi-space for social integration and innovation, etc.
• 11 million euros for services to support employment, education (nursery centers, KDAP), health, socio-economic inclusion, support for the elderly, tackling the risks of poverty and combating the social exclusion of vulnerable groups, such as refugees -immigrants and Roma.
• 8 million euros will be allocated to strengthen competitiveness and extroversion through the promotion of innovative and smart economic and digital transformation, with an emphasis on serving the citizen and supporting start-ups.
“This five-year period will be a creative five-year period that will bring concrete results. With very specific actions and always within the tight timetables we set, we start today from the Municipality of Piraeus, ensuring that not a single minute will be lost for everything we have committed to and for our 66 neighborhoods of Attica. We ensure transparency in our every step and we are determined to achieve in the shortest possible time our common goal: the upgrading of the position of Piraeus, focusing on its citizens”, underlined the Regional Governor of Attica.
He added: “Piraeus is the largest port of our country, the first and most important gateway of the West to the entire East, a city with a long history and excellent prospects that deserves a bright future. And the terms of this future are shaped by all of us together – the two levels of Local Government, always in collaboration with the state and society – utilizing all the financial tools at our disposal”.
For his part, the Mayor of Piraeus Yiannis Moralis emphasized:
“Today is another particularly important day for Piraeus, we continue the good work in our city with a plan, hope and optimism. I would like to thank the Regional Governor of Attica, Nikos Hardalia, an experienced self-governing man, as we will continue to move in this positive direction together, so that every last euro is returned with projects and interventions in the local community, further upgrading the quality of life of Piraeus and making Piraeus an outgoing, modern city with particular dynamics and development. In the Municipality of Piraeus we are absolutely ready to implement these important projects, as we have worked very hard in the past – all the studies are mature, we have received almost all the permits and we start work the very next day”.
