Spring is here! And with it comes pollen season and hay fever season. The good news: Corona masks can also offer protection to allergy sufferers.

How beautiful, it’s blooming and green once more! Some love the beginning of spring, others fear it and find its “gifts” less beautiful. This year too, from March and April onwards it will be once more: pollen and hay fever with almost unbearable symptoms.

Corona masks for hay fever: Less pollen is inhaled

“If your mouth and nose are covered by a mask, the amount of pollen that is inhaled will be significantly lower. “It is therefore very likely that the nasal and possibly also the bronchial symptoms will be alleviated,” confirms Professor Dr. Karl-Christian Bergmann, Chairman of the Board of Directors German Pollen Information Service Foundation (PID) opposite in Berlin The technicians-Health insurance. However, it is not complete protection, as only the nose and mouth are covered and the eyes are still used as a portal for pollen to enter – but it would definitely be a relief.

The good thing: In contrast to the FFP2 mask, a normal fabric mask also helps once morest hay fever and pollen to ward off the coronavirus. “The only important thing is that it is a well-fitting mask that covers the mouth and nose well,” explains Dr. Miner. Since pollen is rather sticky, it sticks to the mask and does not get into your mouth or nose. The allergist also suspects that allergy sufferers who wear masks, especially outdoors, suffer fewer symptoms and also need to take fewer medications for relief. There is now a vaccination once morest hay fever or the allergens that cause it, but it is not suitable for every allergy sufferer.
