Perron038 in Zwolle officially opens Factory Next this week. Part of this is the AM lab where there are several special 3D metal printers. These are available to the manufacturing industry to explore and test the technology. Perron038 has a unique combination of 3D metal printing techniques in the Benelux.
“We want to help companies find answers to practical and theoretical issues,” says Sjoerd Keijser, managing director of Perron038. Keijser, previously business development manager innovation at FME and in that position involved in the rollout of the Smart Industry agenda, recently started working as director of Perron038.
Challenges and technology
The challenges at many technical companies are the same, he notes: a shortage of sufficiently trained technical personnel, more expensive and scarce raw materials, the need to become more sustainable. Technology plays a major role in setting up smarter and cleaner production processes. Factory Next will support manufacturing companies with this from the various labs, such as AM, robotics and artificial intelligence.
Titomic Coldspray metal printer
There is one in Zwolle, among others Titomic Cold Spray metal printer. In this relatively unknown AM technology, the energy to melt the metal particle comes from the kinetic energy. The powders are launched at supersonic speed onto the product to be built, forming the final shape layer by layer. Because the print head is attached to a robot arm, the size of the parts to be printed is virtually unlimited. The cold spray technology also lends itself to the use of multiple alloys in one workpiece. In addition to 3D printing of new parts, Zwolle will also conduct research into repairing metal components using cold spray and applying protective layers. Last month the Dutch army purchased 10 Titomic D523 cold spray systems.
Metal and plastics in AM lab
Perron038 also has an AM system from Meltio. A Haas machining center integrates the Meltio print head so that additive and subtractive machining can take place in one process. This system uses welding wire, which is melted with a laser. Welding wire is a relatively cheap raw material that can also be easily stored. Finally, disposes Perron038 regarding a GE Additive M2 laser powder bed metal printer. The AM lab is further supplemented with a Minifactory Ultra 2 for 3D printing with high-quality plastics such as PEEK and PEKK and a GOM Atos Q 3D scanner.
The opening of Factory Next in Perron038 will take place on April 18. In addition to attention for 3D printing, there is room for robotics & logistics, artificial intelligence and vision & optics. After the opening there will be an open day in the followingnoon, accessible following registration.
