Design Week: 261 million in related activities for Milan, 13.7% more than in 2023

The wait for the Salone del Mobile and the Fuorisalone in Milan, which from 15 to 21 April give life to the most attractive and popular Design Week in the world, does not only concern furniture and design companies, but also businesses and the Milanese operators who benefit from its related activities, estimated this year by the Confcommercio Milan, Lodi, Monza and Brianza research office at around 261 million euros, 13.7% more than last year.

Shopkeepers, hoteliers, restaurateurs, taxi drivers: the list of businesses that will see their revenues increase during this week is long. According to Confcommercio, 73% of the overall SEPSA will be generated by foreign visitors (around 191 million euros). The forecast is based on 317,378 visitors to the Show, 3.24% compared to last year’s edition. 64% of the visitors will come from abroad: around 203,600 people, a figure in line with 2023.

«These are very positive forecasts – comments Marco Barbieri, general secretary of Confcommercio Milan, Lodi, Monza and Brianza – which confirm the growing attractiveness of Milan as a design capital. Thanks to a Salone del Mobile at the Fair which promises to be of a high standard and to the special atmosphere created with the widespread events of the Fuorisalone: ​​a strong attraction for professional visitors and tourists”.

Spending is growing

In comparison with last year, during the days of the Salone del Mobile and Fuorisalone, the various estimates of spending indicators such as accommodation appear to be growing (115.6 million euros +14.2%); catering (81.8 million euros + 13.7%); shopping (63.4 million euros + 12.7%). Daily per capita spending for the Salone del Mobile in Milan is estimated at almost 274 euros: + 10.1% on 2023. Accommodation accounts for 45%, catering for 31%, shopping for 24%.

Reservations for hotels and non-hotel accommodation

During the days of the Salone del Mobile, bookings for short-term rental apartments grew by 6.7% compared to 2023 (this year at 64.5%) while hotel bookings contracted by 9% (this year at 71%) . But the data is still evolving.
