France threatens to impose sanctions on Israel for bringing aid into Gaza

Paris – French Foreign Minister Stephane Ségornet confirmed that his country may exert pressure and impose sanctions on Israel, in order to allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza.

This came in statements during a joint broadcast on France 24 and RFA radio, where he demanded the opening of the crossings in the north and south of the Gaza Strip and the passage of hundreds of aid trucks into the region.

He stated, “There must be means of pressure, and there are multiple means that amount to sanctions to allow humanitarian aid to cross.”

Israel restricts the entry of aid by land into Gaza, which has led to a scarcity of food, medicine and fuel supplies and has created a famine that has begun to claim the lives of children and the elderly in the Strip, which is inhabited by regarding 2.3 million Palestinians, including regarding two million displaced as a result of the war, and which Israel has besieged for 17 years.

He also pointed out that France is one of two countries that proposed imposing European-wide sanctions once morest Israeli settlers who commit acts of violence once morest Palestinians in the West Bank.

He noted that they will continue to do so if necessary to ensure humanitarian aid reaches Gaza.

He stressed France’s support for the two-state solution, adding that it would remain a “friend of Israel.”

For six months, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip that has left tens of thousands of victims, most of them children and women, in addition to an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe and a noticeable deterioration in infrastructure and property, according to Palestinian and UN data, which led to Israel appearing before the International Court of Justice on charges of committing “Genocide”.
