Fincimex, the Cuban financial institution with a license to issue and operate plastic cards, has responded to a client’s complaints regarding the existence of several foreign currency cards on the island.

The client, on the Fincimex institutional page, complained regarding the existence of different types of foreign currency cards, such as MLCs, which do not allow payment in all establishments and have transfer limits.

“If there is already a card that is deposited in currency, dollars, euros or any other redeemable currency, why reduce its purchasing power by detracting from other products that are also deposited in currency, dollars or euros?” asked this user.

Fincimex, in its response, assured that it does not “issue MLC cards nor has its scope.” The financial company pointed out that it has launched a “new financial product with its own characteristics”: the Classic Card in USD, created for payments in the Cuban government’s dollar services.

Fincimex, with license to operate plastic cards

But, Fincimex, according to the official website of the Central Bank of Cuba, has several licenses:

  • Type A license for the issuance and operation of any type of plastic card.
  • License to serve as an institution that acquires plastic cards.
  • License to serve as a plastic card processing center.

Claims to Fincimex for its services

Despite Fincimex’s clarifications, the financial company continues to receive multiple complaints for its services, including:

  • Remittances: delays in receiving remittances sent to Cuba.
  • Balance check: difficulties in checking the balance of the cards, as there is no app to do so.
  • Card PIN: problems obtaining or recovering the card PIN.

Fincimex users have also expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of information and the lack of transparency of the financial company.

Cards in Cuba

The issue of cards in Cuba is complex and generates a lot of controversy. The existence of different types of currency cards, with different characteristics and restrictions, has created confusion among users.

Fincimex, as the main card issuer in Cuba, has the responsibility to improve its services and provide more efficient customer service.
