Spaniards residing in Cuba will receive million-dollar financial aid. The direct benefits will reach, mainly, those people in vulnerable situations.

In this case, older adults will be the “blessed” by said financial relief. This was confirmed by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration of Spain. The government entity launched two calls for financial aid, amounting to 3.6 million euros.

How to apply for financial aid?

Cuban-Spanish residents on the Island may apply for said financial aid within a period of 20 business days from the publication of the extracts in the Official State Gazette (BOE). The deadline to submit the application is April 24.

The Spanish government explained that the 3.6 million euros are divided into two aid segments. The initial fund of 2.2 million will be allocated to day centers, nursing homes and other institutions that care for elderly and/or dependent Spaniards abroad. According to the BOE, “the aim is to improve the living conditions of said group of people by supporting informative, social or assistance activities.”

Meanwhile, the other item of 1.4 million euros will be to benefit federations, associations and centers of Spaniards abroad with more than 50 members. In this case, the aim is to contribute to the financing of the operating and maintenance expenses of these entities. Social, health and sociocultural assistance will be promoted for Spaniards outside the borders of that country.

Requirements to apply for financial aid

Entities that wish to opt for these financial aid will have to be legally created. Likewise, they must be non-profit and, in the case of associations, have a minimum of fifty members.

According to what was published in the BOE, “all procedures and forms are free, so no amount should be paid to any person who requires it. If this happens, you can make a written complaint regarding the case so that the Consulate General can take the appropriate measures.”
