MADRID (EFE).- WhatsApp has announced that it is now possible send a voice message that will disappear once it is heard, a function designed so that users can share confidential information “with greater peace of mind” also in this way.
The new functionality will be launched worldwide in the coming days, the messaging application reports on its blog.
In 2021 WhatsApp introduced the unique display of photos and videos in order to add an additional layer of privacy to users’ messages. “Today we are pleased to announce that you can now send a voice message that will disappear once it is heard,” says the messaging app.
“When you want to read your credit card details to a friend or when you are planning a surprise, now you can also share confidential information through voice messages with greater peace of mind,” he adds.
To maintain “consistency” with single viewing of photos and videos, one-time playback voice messages are clearly marked with a “one time” icon and can only be played once.
The messaging app, owned by Meta, notes that as with all personal messages, WhatsApp protects voice messages with end-to-end encryption by default.
“The single view is another example of our continued innovation in privacy,” says the company.
According to this ‘single display’, Media and audio files are not saved in the recipient’s corresponding sections/folders and cannot be forwarded.
Additionally, if the user doesn’t open the photo, video, or voice message within 14 days of it being sent, the file will disappear from the chat.
