MPreis closes branch in Wels

The Tyrolean food retailer MPreis is facing challenges on its 50th anniversary: in 2022, the family business posted a loss of 15 million euros on sales of 801 million euros. It is clear that we will also be in the red in 2023.

There are 281 locations in Austria, mainly in the west. To a lesser extent, MPreis (which also includes the wholesaler T&G) is represented in Carinthia and Upper Austria. The company says there are no plans to withdraw from the federal states. A transformation process has been initiated and the aim is to return to the black in 2024. Branches are constantly evaluated and a certain level of fluctuation is “normal”. 20 branches have closed in the past two years (the T&G in Wels is closing in April) and nine have closed. MPreis repeatedly encounters sales rumors: “We don’t want to sell the company, we don’t have to.”
