The first launch of the Angara-A5 heavy launch vehicle from the Vostochny cosmodrome in the Amur region has been cancelled.
The rocket with the Orion upper stage and test payload was supposed to launch from pad 1A at 12:00 on April 9, Moscow time. The launch was broadcast live by Roscosmos.
The start was canceled approximately two minutes before the scheduled time. “The launch command has been issued. Work managers should prepare to stop for 24 hours,” the announcer said during the broadcast.

Angara family rockets are developed and produced by the State Space Research and Production Center named following M.V. Khrunicheva. The family includes launch vehicles from light to heavy classes with a payload range from 3.5 tons (Angara-1.2) to 38 tons (Angara-A5B).
Previous tests of the Angara were carried out at the Plesetsk cosmodrome in the Arkhangelsk region. The first test launch of Angara-A5 took place on December 23, 2014, the second on December 14, 2020, and the third on December 27, 2021. In total, over the past ten years, six Angara missiles have launched from Plesetsk – three light and three heavy. According to the developers, flight tests of light and heavy Angara missiles are planned to be completed in 2025.
