Sinner succumbed to Daniil Medvedev in last year’s final. Although the crowd at Hard Rock Stadium cheered Dimitrov on, the 22-year-old Italian played with absolute poise and sealed the match with a backhand winner following 1 hour and 13 minutes.

“This was my third time in the final and I felt like I was going to get the big one today,” Sinner said. “Really happy to be able to lift the biggest trophy.”

At the home of the Miami Dolphins of the NFL, the Bulgarian Dimitrov had a brilliant week following surprising with his victories once morest the top seed Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals and the third seed Alexander Zverev in the semifinals.

But Sinner was unfazed by the fact that his rival was the darling of the public. He faced just one break point. The Italian now appears as one of the great candidates for the French Open.

The men’s tour moves to Europe for clay tournaments, with Roland Garros the highlight in late May and early June.

Sinner won his first major in Australia, then won the title in Rotterdam and reached the final of Indian Wells. His only defeat in 2024 was once morest Alcaraz for the crown in the Californian desert.

“I just try to be in the present. Let what has to happen happen,” Sinner said. “I try to improve and enjoy the moment, and this is a special moment.”

Dimitrov, 10 years older than Sinner at 32, will find himself in the world’s top 10 for the first time in 2018. Sinner will also reach a milestone: he will jump from third to second place — the highest ranking of his young career.

“The clay season will be completely different,” Sinner said. “We will see how I play from now on, but there is no doubt that the hard court tour was very good.”

Dimitrov praised Sinner for the level shown at the start of the season, in which he won the Australian Open, Rotterdam and Miami.

“It’s clearly Jannik week. He is playing great tennis. “It is really impressive the way he is maintaining this level,” he stated.

“I have to focus on what’s next for me. I don’t have time to lose confidence, I also want to accept this moment. Just like when you win, you have to be able to manage games like this. This is the next step for me. “Now we start on clay,” she added.—EFE AND AP
