Russia – The Russian Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision Service reported that an Egyptian wheat ship that was detained in Russian ports had obtained documents allowing it to sail.
The Russian Authority explained that the Egyptian Wadi Safaga ship obtained a phytosanitary certificate on April 4 following a request from the Egyptian General Authority for Supply Commodities.
The Russian authorities had detained two Egyptian ships loaded with wheat for export to Egypt.
Egyptian Minister of Supply Ali Al-Moselhi said that the Russian authorities are detaining the two ships because they do not have the correct documents, and that the ships have been prevented from sailing and are now being detained in Russian ports.
Al-Moselhi indicated that the two ships were scheduled to head to Egyptian ports by the end of March, according to the January tender, indicating that Egypt is awaiting a response from Russian embassy officials regarding this incident.
He added that Egypt will decide what to do with the shipments as soon as it receives a response from Russia regarding the two ships, which bear the names Valley of the Kings and Wadi Safaga.
The two ships carry shipments from Grainflower DMCC, and Bloomberg indicated that Greenflower is an export partner of the Russian trader (TD Rif), and that the company’s exports are banned and it faces pressure to sell its assets.
