Good news comes from the Riau Province Elephant Conservation Center (PKG). One Sumatran elephant (Elephas maximus sumatrana) was born on Saturday (6/4) at 03.30 WIB in the morning.
The Riau Center for Natural Resources Conversion (KSDA) informed that the elephant calf was born to a female elephant named Fuja (20 years) and a male mother named Sarma (25 years). Both of them are elephants that were evacuated from animal traps in the Kampar Kiri area in 2008.
Director General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE) Satyawan Pudyatmoko said, based on the results of health checks and morphometric measurements, the elephant calf, which is a protected animal, has a body height of 75 cm, chest circumference of 97 cm, body length of 97 cm and weight of 75. 5 kg and female.
“The mother and calf are in good health and show normal vitality,” said Satyawan in a written statement, Sunday (8/4).
He stated that the team of veterinarians and animal medical nurses from the Riau KSDA Center continued to intensively monitor the health condition of the mother and calf. The calf that was born was a Sumatran Elephant who was born on the 27th day of Ramadan 1445 H.
