The Council of Judges asks the president to suspend the powers of Kaunas judge V. Jegorovienė

As Kaunas district court representative Tautvilė Merkevičiūtė told BNS, the council granted the appeal of court chairman Arūnas Purvainis.

“This is a welcome decision, which is necessary to ensure the right to a fair trial and respect for human rights,” A. Purvainis said in a comment transmitted to BNS.

V. Jegorovienė asked the Council of Judges to examine the issue of suspending her powers in a closed session “in order to ensure the confidentiality of pre-trial investigation data, to protect information regarding a person’s private life and other information, the protection of which is regulated by law”.

The Council of Judges granted this request at the suggestion of the chairperson, Sigita Rudėnaitė.

The chairman of the Kaunas district court, A. Purvainis, asked the council to suspend the powers of the judge, as V. Yegorovienei has been reprimanded for disciplinary violations, and a third disciplinary case is currently pending.

A.Purvainis submitted a request to the Council of Judges to hold an extraordinary meeting on March 7.

As A.Purvainis previously indicated to BNS, he made the request taking into account the fact that V.Jegorovienė’s behavior following the third disciplinary case filed on November 10 “not only did not change and did not improve, but only got worse and worse”.

According to the head of the court, complaints from parties to proceedings, their defenders, secretaries of hearings, other institutions, and notaries are constantly received due to the activities of V. Yegorovienė.

At the beginning of March, at the request of the Council of Judges, the president suspended the powers of Vilnius City District Court judge Dainiaus Grizickas due to negligent work and other work deficiencies. Shortly therefollowing, the judge requested voluntary dismissal.
