For the second time, Gerti Tröbinger and Maria Dürrhammer are trying to get their audience used to the new date in June for the Wels Puppet Theater Festival. In order to make outdoor events possible once more, the festival will take place from June 13th to 20th. There will be a picnic with dolls on June 15th from 2:30 p.m., and on Thursday and Friday Ermelinda Coccia will show her sand art in the pedestrian zone in the followingnoon. In terms of content, the festival focuses on Anton Bruckner, whose birthday will be 200 years old on September 4th. The festival will open on June 13th (7 p.m., City Theater) with the play “The Strange Mr. Bruckner” by the “exen” with the renowned Spring String Quartet. “Looking for Brunhild” will be dedicated to the Nibelungen saga on June 20th (7:30 p.m., Stadttheater). There are lots of fairy tales for children, such as “The Robber Hotzenplotz” (Thursday, 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., Schl8hof).

The “Young Animations Festival” program will be continued this year, in which young artists, some of whom are still students, show their programs – this year not at the end of the ten days of the festival, but in the middle of it (Friday and Saturday). “This track is good for us. We get to know new artists,” says organizer Gerti Tröbinger. There were 60 applications for this.

Wels Vice Mayor Christa Raggl-Mühlberger (FPÖ) increased the program budget to 85,000 euros. Since the June date was not optimally received last year (3,500 visitors, 60 percent occupancy), a social media campaign will also be launched this year. Tickets are available from April 15th on Tel. 07242/235-7040 or figurentheater-wels@ gmx.at – information: figurentheater-wels.at (hes)
