Interim CHAIRMAN of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Nawawi Pomolango denied reports that his agency would be merged with the Ombudsman. The rumors circulating were called lies and were never discussed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

“The message is empty, it’s not there. “I assure you it’s a lie, I have never met the President for matters like that,” said Nawawi in a written statement, Friday (5/4).

Nawawi admitted that he did not know the origin of the issue circulating. However, he believes there are parties who want to make the KPK look worse.

“It seems that there are parties who deliberately raise issues in the midst of a situation where there is a lot of criticism of this institution,” said Nawawi.

Nawawi was reluctant to respond further to the issue. He ensured that the KPK would continue to stand and eradicate corruption in Indonesia.

“(We) ensure that the things that are being said are not true,” said Nawawi.

Previously, rumors circulated that the KPK would be merged with the Ombudsman. Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Committee Alexander Marwata said this possibility existed.

“So far the leadership has not received this information, but is there a possibility? Yes,” said Alex at the KPK’s Red and White Building, South Jakarta, Tuesday (2/4).

Alex gave the example of South Korea (South Korea), which combined its corruption eradication authority with the Ombudsman because it was considered too strong. It is considered that the merger maneuver might also occur in Indonesia. (Z-1)
