Shooting in Nashville, Tennessee, leaves one dead and five injured

NASHVILLE, Tennessee, USA — On Sunday followingnoon, a shooting occurred inside a restaurant in Nashville, Tennessee, in which a man was killed and five other people were injured, police reported.

The shooting occurred around 3 p.m. in the Salemtown neighborhood, minutes following the suspect arrived at the scene with a woman, police said.

The suspect and the deceased man began an argument that “escalated significantly in a few moments,” the police spokesman said. Nashville Metropolitan Police, Don Aaronat a press conference at the site.

Police later identified the deceased as Allen Beachem, 33 years old. At first the condition of the other victims was unknown.

Police identified the 46-year-old suspect and the car used to flee the scene from security video provided by the restaurant. The search operation continued on Sunday and police posted images of the scene on social media, including an image of a man pointing a gun.

“The shooter was the only one who brandished a gun. There was no exchange of gunfire, this was a person who decided to pull out a gun due to an altercation that occurred with another man, and then fired several shots,” Aaron said.

Scenes of panic broke out in the restaurant as customers tried to flee, police Commander Anthony McClain said.

“Some people tried to confront the gunman,” McClain said. “It was enormous chaos.”

Investigators were at local hospitals Sunday interviewing victims to determine what exactly had happened, Aaron said.

“It might be something as simple as a person invading another person’s space,” he said.
