WITH new financial support and under new ownership, MV Agusta maintains its name and reputation to hit the world of motor racing once more. Especially if a star like Marc Marquez is recruited to lead this project.
The eight-time world champion, who swapped Honda for Ducati, is only under contract for one year, and his future will be up for grabs next year. Marquez and KTM have Red Bull behind him as an influential sponsor and he might still be approached by factory teams for 2025.
MotoGP observer Ricard Jove previously predicted that KTM’s dream was to have Marc Marquez ride the MV Agusta.
“Do you know what KTM’s dream is? Do you know what KTM wants to do in the future? Having Marc Marquez on MV Agusta. That’s the game they want and it might happen,” said Ricard.
“But that’s the goal and I think it’s a very good marketing exercise if achieved. That’s where the future is aiming or that’s where they’re going. This is my opinion based on certain information, but this is my opinion,” he added.
Many things have changed since then. Marquez joined Ducati, and now KTM has acquired MV Agusta.

There will be regulatory hurdles to jump through, including proving that the KTM and MV Agusta were developed and homologated separately. MotoGP’s new regulations come into effect in 2027, and KTM clearly has big plans.
As is known, Pierer Mobility Group, KTM’s parent company, has now become the majority shareholder in MV Agusta. They have acquired a 50.1% stake in the historic brand, adding it to a portfolio that includes KTM, Husqvarna and GASGAS.
The new CEO of the iconic MV Agusta brand, Hubert Trunkenpolz sits on the board of directors of Pierer Mobility Group. This big news in the world of road bikes might turn into a dream scenario in MotoGP.

KTM is in the process of expanding their current presence with four bikes on the 2024 grid. Currently, the factory duo of Brad Binder and Jack Miller are complemented by Pedro Acosta and Augusto Fernandez of Tech3 GAS. Even so, KTM wants something more than that.
Last year they unsuccessfully asked Dorna to add additional bikes to the grid, and with existing satellite teams to join their group.
KTM is reportedly one of the teams currently in talks with VR46, who is deciding whether to leave or stay with Ducati.

Due to the acquisition of MV Agusta by KTM, they are also rumored to be adding one or two motorbikes to the grid. Alternatively, MV Agusta will be on the grid under a separate brand from KTM.
“I don’t rule out the possibility that we will enter MotoGP as a separate brand with MV Agusta in 2027,” said KTM boss Stefan Pierer.
MV Agusta is a historic MotoGP manufacturer even though it resigned in 1976, following becoming champion 38 times.
Giacomo Agostini, Mike Hailwood, Phil Read, and John Surtees are some of the legendary names who have represented MV Agusta. This brand briefly returned in 2019 in Moto2 until the project with front racing suddenly ended.
