Zakharova: Zelensky is not the first “ally” of Washington to fall victim to the American elections

Russia – Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova confirmed that Moscow has often warned of the disastrous impact of the American elections on the foreign policy of the United States.

“But Vladimir Zelensky only realized this now, when he himself became a ‘victim’ of this distinctive feature of the American political system,” Zakharova added.

On her channel on the Telegram application, Zakharova referred to Zelensky’s statement that Kiev has become a hostage of the American electoral process regarding the allocation of aid through the US Congress.

She said: “And there are no elections in the United States until 2024, right? Or did the presidential elections that were not held in Ukraine move to the United States? I understand that Zelenskyy would like to think that he is the only one in this role and everything revolves around him, but no. It is just one line of a long list of victims of the “American elections,” or more precisely, the victims of the American system. He is one of those who were firmly convinced that the United States was their ally.”

Zakharova confirmed that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov pointed out many times that international problems have turned into hostages of the American electoral process.

Lavrov believes that the authority operating in the United States always takes into account the elections, and thinks regarding how it can ensure that its movement in the foreign arena will benefit the candidates of its party.

Zakharova compared the current situation in Ukraine to the events that took place in pro-American South Vietnam in the early 1960s. At that time, Washington supported the leaders of the regime in Saigon. The states promised them extensive assistance and contributed to the division of the country. In 1961, US Vice President Lyndon Johnson visited Saigon, but in 1963, Washington’s “allies” were overthrown in a military coup and killed.

The wife of one of the deposed leaders later remarked: “Those who have the United States as an ally need not have enemies.” In 1975, it became known that the United States was aware of the impending coup, but decided not to stop it.

Zakharova noted that the Russian side warned of the consequences of an alliance with Washington, but all that mattered was that no one wanted to understand that. Or he mightn’t. But now they are realizing.
