SEBASTIAN Vettel says he is considering a comeback to Formula 1 while admitting he has spoken to Mercedes Team Boss Toto Wolff.
The four-time world champion, who ends his illustrious Formula 1 career in 2022, has now publicly stated he may be tempted to end his retirement and return to the sport.
With Lewis Hamilton’s shock move to Ferrari, next year, Mercedes has one spot open and Vettel has been linked with the German manufacturer.
Apart from that, empty seats are also created because the contracts of Sergio Perez at Red Bulls and Fernando Alonso at Aston Martin will expire at the end of the year.
“Well, most likely I’m tempted because I don’t have a seat yet, but the question is, do I look for one? I think it depends on the package,” said Vettel as quoted by Crash.
“I retired from Formula 1 not to come back, but I also said you never know. So I think it’s still open,” he added.
Vettel stressed his talks with Wolff were not just regarding the open vacancy at Mercedes and revealed he had also kept in touch with other team bosses.
“I spoke to him (Toto Wolff), not regarding the seat. We also discussed the whole situation briefly. But I also spoke to other people because I still keep in touch occasionally. I have several joint projects and ideas with Formula 1. We’ll see whether they will succeed or not,” concluded Vettel. (Z-1)
